BEST THINGS TO DO IN ILOILO
Getting to Gigantes Island via
Boracay Airport Flights
There are several flights to Boracay Airport everyday.
Heading to Gigantes Island, I presume? There are four commercial entry sites, and daily planes are available between them. However, before making a flight reservation, travelers should read the following.
- The main port for accessing the island of Gigantes is located at Bancal. Nearly 143 kilometers separate Bancal Port from Iloilo International Airport (in Iloilo City).
- The distance between the Port of Bancal and Kalibo International Airport (in Kalibo, Aklan) is also 143 kilometers.
- Caticlan/Boracay Airport (officially, the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport) in Caticlan and the Roxas City Airport in Roxas City,
- Capiz, are the available alternative domestic airports for visitors arriving from other airports in the Philippines.
- The distance from Boracay/Caticlan Airport to the port of Bancal in Carles, Iloilo, is about 207 kilometers.
- The distance between the Port of Bancal and Roxas City Airport is around 77 kilometers.
There is a small airport in Carles (home to the stunning Gigantes Island). However, there aren’t any commercial/domestic flights to Sicogon Airport at the moment (2022); thus, flying to Roxas City Airport is the fastest method to travel to Gigantes Island.

The Caticlan Airport is in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan. It is the primary entry point for domestic tourists to Boracay.
Boracay
Boracay is well-known for being one of the world’s top relaxation destinations, in addition to its white sand beaches. It emerged as one of the top destinations for both tranquility and nightlife in 2013. Boracay was named the World’s Best Island in 2012 by the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure. The resort island topped the international magazine Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the “Best Islands in the World” in 2014. Boracay was named the magazine’s “Top 10 Destinations to Watch” in 2016.
Boracay tourism is at its peak during the amihan season, in part due to its wind and weather patterns (which start in September or October and end sometime in May or June). The prevailing wind during amihan is from the east. White Beach, Boracay’s main tourism area, is located on the western side of Boracay Island and is wind-protected.
The water off White Beach is often clear-smooth during the Amihan season. Hills on the island’s northern and southern ends channel the winds(during Amihan season) from the east onshore onto Bulabog Beach. The reef-protected waters off that beach are, therefore, relatively safe and ideal for windsurfing, scuba diving, and kitesurfing/kiteboarding.
Outside of El Salvador, the island has the highest concentration of bitcoin merchants. There is a push to rename the island “Bitcoin Island” and establish a circular economy similar to Bitcoin Beach.

Caticlan Airport
Godofredo P. Ramos Airport serves the municipality of Malay, which is situated in the Philippine province of Aklan. It is also known as Caticlan Airport and, more recently, Boracay Airport by its developer Transaire. It is one of the two entry points to Boracay, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Philippines. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has designated the airport as a Class 1 primary domestic airport. With 599,956 passengers served in 2021, the airport will rank as the fourth busiest in the Philippines and the busiest in the Western Visayas area. Since November 7, 2012, the airport has been known as Godofredo P. Ramos International Airport in honor of the late Malay native and former congressman. The barrio of Caticlan in the municipality of Malay is where the airport is located, and that is whence it gets its name, Caticlan Airport.
