Roxas City, Capiz
Capiz is a Philippine province located in Western Visayas. Roxas serves as the province’s capital. It is located on Panay Island’s northeastern tip, bordering Antique to the west, Aklan to the north, and Iloilo to the south.
Capiz is famous for the oyster shell, which is used for decoration and to make lampshades, trays, windows, and doors. Similarly, the province is known as the “Philippine Seafood Capital” and is one of the top visited places in the country. Capiz is home to the famous coral-stone Santa Monica Church in Panay, which houses Asia’s largest Catholic Church bell. The bell was constructed from several sacks of gold and silver coins donated by the people of the town. The Pan-ay bell, which measures five feet in height, seven feet in diameter, and weighs 10,400 kilograms (just over ten metric tons), is popular among tourists visiting Capiz.
Roxas City (formally called the City of Roxas) is a third-class component city and the capital of the province of Capiz.
It was renamed after native Manuel Acua Roxas, the fourth president of the Philippines, on May 12, 1951.
It is the second largest center of education, trade, economic activity, and logistics on the island of Panay, after Iloilo City. Because of the abundance of marine life, Roxas City is known as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines.”
